{"id":234,"date":"2023-04-11T00:23:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T15:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pasteur-japan.net\/?p=188"},"modified":"2024-07-22T12:39:47","modified_gmt":"2024-07-22T03:39:47","slug":"building-cooperation-and-trust-in-the-field-of-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pasteur.jp\/en\/2023\/04\/11\/building-cooperation-and-trust-in-the-field-of-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Building Cooperation and Trust in the Field of Healthcare"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><u>April 7th brainstorming session discussion summary<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><u><em>Foundation Pasteur Japon<\/em><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>What are some ongoing challenges to consider?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Communication\/cultural differences between the West and East (for example: France and Japan)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Japan, doctors usually act as the higher authority over the patient, but the Western way of thinking (the patient acts as the higher authority) is increasing around the world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, the relationship between doctors and patients has changed; nowadays, doctors need to explain, not only tell, what is going on to patients to gain their trust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immunization can be a controversial topic\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immunization occurs when one is healthy vs. other medications are used when one is sick, making it more likely that patients\/people will not follow recommendations from doctors\/health authorities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immunization is not taught as much in Japanese medical schools compared to American medical schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education at a young age will make it more likely that people will follow recommendations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are valid opinions on both sides of the argument; learning about both sides is important<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether people trust or do not trust information depends on the source of the information\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>During the 1990s, Japan introduced sanitary association systems during cholera (information conveyed by municipalities to citizens and they were well-trusted)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After Fukushima nuclear incident, distrust toward the Japanese government grew<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Classifying society into a single unit may be too much of a simplification\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Science cannot be classified into a single unit as well<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Science literacy \u2013 important for people to come up with their own informed opinion on topics and issues in the science field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>What are some conclusions made\/goals to strive for?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gaining the public\u2019s trust is key\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Opponents can be vocal; they also have the right to be heard and have their issues addressed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gaining trust takes time yet is very easy to lose<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Too much competition in science is not good because it can breed corruption and mistrust; cooperation is key among social scientists and medical professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social media can be dangerous as it is sensational and can spread false information quickly, but if used correctly and ethically can be a great tool to communicate ideas to the public<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality of science is impacted by the condition of work, so improving the latter will improve the former<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use scientific evidence to find solutions and plan actions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>General questions for the future<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is the current goal at hand regarding this topic?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can scientists be sensitive to varying views about science?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who verifies the information that is released to the public?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are the viewpoints of the stakeholders (general public) involved?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is trust in science like now compared to different periods in the past?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How does one verify that there is a \u201ctrust in science\u201d?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is the government\u2019s role in science and what is it aiming to do?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 7th brainstorming session discussion summary Foundation Pasteur Japon What are some ongoing challenges to consider?
