On December 4, 2023, Fondation Pasteur Japon hosted the FPJ Annual Gala 2023 at the French Residence with support from the Embassy of France to Japan. The event was attended by approximately 100 distinguished guests from government, academia, private, and non-profit sectors.
The event was a fusion of intellectual discourse and cultural celebration between French and Japanese researchers and academics, with H.E. Ambassador Philippe Setton’s opening remarks setting the stage for the evening. Professor Philippe Kourilsky (Honorary President of the Institut Pasteur) and Professor Fumihiko Matsuda (Executive Director of FPJ) also gave remarks regarding their hopes that FPJ can serve as a bridge between the Institut Pasteur in Paris and Japanese research institutions. Dr. Shigeyuki Kano, Director of the Department of Tropical Medicine and Malaria at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), delivered a message on behalf of NCGM’s President Norihiro Kokudo, which was followed by a toast from Dean Tadashi Isa of the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine at Kyoto University.
Amidst a standing light dinner filled with French and Japanese cuisine, conversations flowed and connections were created among attendees from diverse fields. The FPJ Annual Gala 2023 was a testament to France and Japan’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and academic exchange, fostering bonds that transcend borders and disciplines.
