On July 31st, 2024, the Pasteur English Immersion Club (PEIC) welcomed Professor Ponpan M. Choopong, an associate professor at Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science of Mahidol University.
Professor Choopong made a presentation about “Host Single-cell Immune Profile in Response to Dengue Virus Across Time and Severity”. Dengue fever is found in tropical and subtropical areas. More than half of those infected are subclinical, but when symptoms do occur, they include high fever and headache similar to that of influenza. In addition, some symptomatic patients become severely ill and can lead to death.
Professor Choopong’s research focuses on the ratio and function of immune cells so that the risk of severe infection can be identified early and medical intervention can be provided at an early stage. With her clear explanations and comprehensive slides, students were able to deepen their understanding of the micro-level world and actively participated in the Q&A session.
Thank you again Prof. Choopong for taking the time to share your work with us.
PEIC hosts monthly study sessions for students and young researchers interested in life science and health. If you are interested, please find more information here and reach us anytime!
