Press Release [Announcement]: Signing of MOU with National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN)

On September 20, 2024, Institut Pasteur du Japon (IPJ) held a signing ceremony in Osaka with the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (President: Dr. Yusuke Nakamura), formalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for research collaboration.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will work together to contribute to global health promotion, starting in Japan, and extend healthy life expectancy through the following initiatives:

  1. Engage in cooperative research and information exchange on fields of mutual interest, including pharmaceutical and vaccine development.
  2. Identify specific research and business areas for collaboration that align with the objectives outlined above.
  3. Cooperate in fostering the next generation of researchers and driving innovation in these fields.

“Genomics and genetics are becoming increasingly important, and while we recognize commonalities, there are also differences between individual races and ethnic groups. I believe that by acknowledging these distinctions, we can contribute research that benefits each country, as well as collaborative research that benefits the world. As research partners in this shared mission, I am confident that we will make significant contributions through this agreement.”

— Dr. Yusuke Nakamura, President of NIBIOHN

“In evaluating the safety and efficacy of vaccines for infectious diseases, experimental animals with immune systems similar to humans offer the most reliable method of validation. Institut Pasteur has developed various vaccines and possesses a wealth of expertise in elucidating the causes of infectious diseases and developing countermeasures. By combining our expertise with NIBIOHN, and collaborating with the research group led by Dr. Nakamura, we anticipate a great synergistic effort”

— Dr. Fumihiko Matsuda, Co-Director of Institut Pasteur du Japon
