On April 1, 2026, the Institut Pasteur du Japon (IPJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS) to advance joint research in health security.
The signing took place at the Residence of the French Ambassador in Tokyo, where JIHS President Dr. Norihiro Kokudo and IPJ Representative Director Dr. Anavaj Sakuntabhai formalized the agreement. The ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Jean-Luc Moullet, Director General for Research and Innovation at France’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, and His Excellency Mr. Hiroshi Kawamura, Japan’s Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, among others.
This agreement was highlighted during French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to Japan and recognized in the France-Japan Joint Statement on Global Health as an important step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Through this MOU, JIHS and IPJ will deepen collaboration between Japan and France, contributing to a growing international focus on pandemic preparedness and health security.
